Blackberry Blackberries belong to the general family of the fruits of the forest. They look like raspberries, but they have a tougher flesh and are dark purple in color, almost black.
They come to ripeness in the second part of the summer and the trees are covered in thorns, so take along a pair of gloves if you go to pick them. Similar fruits are mulberries, which are usually of a longer shape (and are the fruits of mulberry trees).
These small fruits of the forest are only to be quickly washed under running water and patted dry and are ideal for pies, jams and milkshakes.
